Exmoor Pony Tom - Cover Star for The Exmoor Pony Chronicles

Tom is one of the ponies at The Exmoor Pony Centre near Dulverton. In 2015 he took part in the Exmoor Perambulation, a 31 mile walk held annually, commemorating the centuries-old tradition of walking the boundary of the Royal Forest of Exmoor. Not only does this wonderful picture convey that the book looks into the ponies' past but Tom himself says so much about how much Exmoor ponies have to offer.

He was born into the free-living herd on Winsford Hill and his first six months of life were as a free spirit, learning and developing his wild instincts. In his first autumn, after being gathered in with the Anchor Herd and passing his Exmoor Pony Society inspection, he arrived at the Exmoor Pony Centre to begin his training. Their expert handling  taught him to trust people. Now he undertakes visits to schools and residential homes, taking everything in his stride, showing that with sensitive training at that early age, an Exmoor is capable of so much in a relationship with people.

Shortly before the launch of The Exmoor Pony Chronicles, Tom and Sue were photographed bringing some copies of the book to the Exmoor Pony Centre, where the launch was held. Tom was a real professional for the photo-shoot, carrying books in saddle-bags and patiently walking up and down the drive alongside Sue.

He also cast an eye over the front cover to check out how he looked.
